The visitor

Cherry is slipping into bed when the bell cuts through the quiet. Her husband waits beneath the sheets, already half asleep. At the door stands a stranger with a manila folder from the museum. He says he needs a signature. Cherry takes the papers, then takes a longer look at the man holding them. The hallway light catches her hair as she steps aside and invites him in.
